Timothy Sykes is known the world over for making millions from trading penny stocks, as well as going on to becoming a highly successful businessman that teaches others how to adopt his trading strategy so that they too can become millionaires. At the age of 37 Tim’s current net worth is estimated to be in the region of $15 million.
Although he was successful in turning his $12,000 bar mitzvah money into almost $2 million, the vast majority of his wealth actually comes from his teaching business. This is one of the main things that propelled him into the spotlight, and saw him feature on countless TV shows and in numerous publications, as well as writing his own book.
Because of these successes and the subsequent wealth that he has amassed, Tim has been able to do lots of work with various charities, and has even gone on to create his own. This is something he promotes amongst his many students and his followers on social media that are based across the world.
It was during his days at Tulane University that Tim first developed an interest in helping others through philanthropic acts. As part of his Bachelor of Science degree, Tim studied the philosophy of philanthropy, a topic that he even admitted he was not very good at. However, he was inspired to study this course, rather than business or finance courses like his many friends, because of his passion for learning different things.
It was whilst he was at college, after having been first introduced to the topic of philanthropy, that Tim first started his charitable pursuits. He became a Make-A-Wish Granter and worked to fulfill the dying wishes of children with terminal illnesses. This was a role that Tim stated was both extremely sad and highly intense. However, it was this experience, along with others, that would inspire him to set up his own foundation.
Once Tim had become a successful businessman after many years of trading, sales from his vast DVD collection were able to fund his own charitable actions. This saw him make a large donation of $1 million to Pencils of Promise, which enabled them to build a number of schools in both Cambodia and Laos so that local children could receive an education. After making the biggest single donation that the charity had ever received, Tim went out to these countries to see, first hand, the schools that he helped to build.
All of these experiences encouraged him to set up his own foundation named The Timothy Sykes Foundation. Since establishing his own charity, Tim made the profound statement that it was the best idea that he has ever had. His latest philanthropic endeavor seems him team up with celebrity photographer Mattheau Abad to create a charity known as KarmaGawa. This name translates to mean the more good deeds that you perform, the greater that your destiny will be.
It the aim of the charity is to promote the power of education, encourage people to live their life with purpose, give back to those people who are most in need, and encourage people to embrace challenges in order to promote a greater level of positivity. The charity’s mission is to promote the great work of numerous other charities and foundations across the globe and give them a greater amount of exposure through the use of the KarmaGawa website and social media channels. This allows those other foundations and charities to focus on their sole mission of administering their charity work, rather than having to promote their work as well.
KarmaGawa uses 80 percent of the money that it raises through the sale of women’s and men’s clothing on its website to perform these tasks. The remaining 20 percent is used to support the growth of the charity, funding any partnerships or overseas trips that it may be involved with now or in the future. This is one reason for the charity’s use of an infinity symbol as its logo, as everything that it does is wholly connected to the various causes that it promotes. By getting its job right, KarmaGawa will help to benefit everyone as a greater level of exposure will lead to more donations, and thus more children receiving an education within the most neediest parts of the world.
In recent years, many charities and charitable foundations have come under intense scrutiny because of the abusive actions of other high profile charities that only typically put between 5 percent and 10 percent of the money that they raise to the actual cause that they support. KarmaGawa differ in that they have and always will donate millions of dollars to their charitable causes every year. The charity also promises to donate more as it continues to grow.
Growth of the charity is what Tim is hoping to achieve in order to reach his target of building 1,000 schools for the world’s underprivileged children. So far KarmaGawa has built more than 50 schools across the world, served more than 227,000 meals to the starving, and helped in excess of 3,700 endangered animals, including giraffes and rhinos.
Tim uses social media to promote the work of both KarmaGawa and other charities and foundations, as he believes it is an effective way of spreading the message of the respective charity and highlighting the valuable work that it does. He put lots of effort into this kind of work taking and editing photos, and writing in depth descriptions. This is something he did in a recent campaign for his own charity. Tim produced a hard hitting video about the demise of the African rhino that was shared online over 6 millions times and has received 30 million views.
Its success was down to the fact that it was shared across all of Tim’s social media platforms, including Instagram where he has 1.5 millions followers, Facebook where he has over 420,000 followers, and Twitter where he as more than 207,000 followers.
