Connections is the newest word game featured in The New York Times that has garnered significant public interest. The objective of the game is to identify the “common threads among words.” Similar to Wordle, Connections refreshes at midnight, presenting increasingly challenging sets of words with each new day. To aid players in overcoming these challenges, we have compiled a selection of hints and strategies.
For those who prefer to see the solution for today’s puzzle, you may find it at the conclusion of this article for the Connections solution dated July 31. However, if you wish to tackle the puzzle independently, continue reading for valuable clues, tips, and strategies to enhance your gameplay.
How to play Connections
Within Connections, you will encounter a grid that displays 16 words — your task is to categorize these words into four sets of four by identifying the connections that bind them together. These sets may involve themes such as titles of video game franchises, sequels of book series, shades of red, names of chain restaurants, and so on.
Some words may appear to be suitable for multiple themes, but there is only one correct answer. You have the option to rearrange the grid of words to facilitate a clearer view of the potential connections.
Each set is color-coded. The yellow set is the simplest to decipher, followed by the green, blue, and purple sets.
Select four words and click on Submit. If your selection is accurate, the four words will be eliminated from the grid and the connecting theme will be disclosed. An incorrect guess will be considered a mistake. You are allowed only four mistakes before the game concludes.
